Audiovisual Storytelling

With the precision, experience and eye of a designer.

Formally trained as a designer, my passion for audiovisual editing has informed my skillset development in multimedia and digital content production, strategic media capture and dynamic editing.

"Isolated Together" is a short film I shot, animated, produced, and sound-designed exploring the complexity of emotions I had been feeling during the pandemic regarding the irony of collective isolation.

Collecting sounds from my marching band rehearsals that were still taking place even though we had no performances, I used images and video of my living space and simple animations to visualize the sounds and emotions of collective isolation. I was intrigued by the concept that there were thousands of students all in the same campus isolated in their little cubed housing for our safety.

Film, Emotion, and Performance

"Mouse: the performance" is the second half of the short film Mouse. It is about a girl auditioning on a Euphonium piece.

Mice scurry like they are constantly moving towards the next thing. They move with urgency, but no agency. They move as if they know someone else’s decisions control the direction of their life.

This was a passion project of mine that started as a short film in need of an ending and ended with that ending being the main storyline. This film reel demonstrates my ability to capture the emotions of a performance. While the second half is more relevant to this position, the full film does give emotional context to the horror elements that develop throughout the performance storyline.

Graphics Integration and Research Based Production

I designed and animated the logo and provided graphic support for the educational documentary "Cyclotrons!" Featured on U.S. Particle Accelerator School Official Website.

The design was based on the real life physics based paths a cyclotron moves. The end result deeply resonated with the scientific audience and connected them to the content.

Collecting Narratives

Interviewing artists, story curation and writing.

I interviewed artists and stakeholders to write articles for Strathmore's print news publication as a marketing and communications intern and contractor at Strathmore.

I interviewed artists Christie Dashiell and Rochelle Rice from Sweet Honey in the Rock, an a cappella ensemble with music rooted in African American history and culture. For the article, I curated the interviews to engage the reader and fit in the space allotted. I also transcribed and documented full interviews at strathmore.org/sweet.

I also interviewed critically acclaimed jazz drummer Allison Miller about her upcoming immersive multimedia production and album, "Rivers." I co-wrote and edited the resulting newsletter article.

Hosting and Audio Editing

I hosted and produced a podcast pilot called Yes, We Exist Podcast, in partnership with the student group Disability: Identity, Culture, & Education (DICE) from the University of Maryland, College Park. My co-host, Caliph Riley III and I interviewed disabled students about their experiences with their disabled identity and attending school at a largely inaccessible campus.

UX/UI and Web Design

In November of 2023, I noticed most of our web related work was a lot of band-aid fixes that left us many problems later. Our web design was outdated, and the structure of the website was complication. Since I had an interest in UX, I spearheaded a project to refresh the website.

After pitching my ideas to management, I was met with excitement at the ideas. We started with the donations and giving section, and expanded to education as well.

While there is still a lot to be done, I am very proud of the sections of the website we have redesigned, and my work was recognized with a promotion to UX/UI and Digital Production Designer to continue the work I had started.

Revenue and Engagement Driven Campaign Management

Raising over $75K over two comprehensive giving campaigns and engaging target audiences.

Over my two years running the social media for the Mighty Sound of Maryland Marching band, I had more than doubled the engagement and following of a previously quiet social media presence. As our annual Giving Campaign approached, I strategically used this new and engaged following of current members, prospective members, band parents and alumni to drive fundraising revenue on a $0 budget.

By the end of the first campaign, we had more than doubled our initial goal of $15K, reaching over $30K, and allowing the band to buy many new instruments and equipment. The following year we topped our previous year's fundraising revenue, fundraising over $35K.

Engaging celebrities on social media.

Two videos of our performances that I had edited down and posted on Twitter got retweeted by Lil Nas X, garnering over 365K views in just a couple days. After this success, we also tagged Grammy winning artist Jon Batiste in our cover of his song "I Need You," which he also retweeted! While viral videos have a wider reach and lower engagement, this got many members of our community excited and proud to be part of the band, which as part of a larger and consistent social media presence had substantially grown our following.

Capturing Dynamic Content

A designer's eye for a good shot and an artist's attunement to an emotional, exciting moment.

One of my favorite things about working in the performing arts is seeing all the hard work pay off and attending the events. At these events I have captured dynamic video content.
